The supply demand lines have crossed on the Colorado River for the first time in history and some of the major underground aquifers are being depleted faster than anticipated forcing municipalities on the Front Range of Colorado to seek new water supplies.
Two Rivers is currently rebuilding a large reservoir and irrigation system it owns, which is advantageously located just east of the foothills at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado. The water rights permitting the storage and diversion of water for irrigation purposes were granted in the late 1800s and early 1900s. As a result, they can be rehabilitated at a fraction of replacement costs without time consuming and costly permitting.
The Cucharas, Bradford and Orlando Reservoirs, once rehabilitated, can become permanent lakes and the engines of growth in Huerfano County. The reservoirs will provide recreational, fishing, business and residential opportunities. Two Rivers expects to invest as much as $100,000,000 and create 1,000 new jobs in Huerfano County over the next ten years by rehabilitating and establishing infrastructure for water services around the reservoirs.
